Memory Loss and Other Items

I think I'm getting old. I can't keep up with all the action. I've been racking my brain trying to remember what we've been doing for the past month. It's a total blur. I honestly don't remember!!! One minute I was making cupcakes for a cupcake exchange, and the next thing I know, it's the last week of school. I'm seriously worried about the memory thing. Eden's entry last month's is a case in point. I mean, who in the heck forgets their child at Best Buy for 2 hours!!!!! Here are the only things I remember from the past 4 weeks.

Claire and the rest of the youth in our ward have been busy getting ready for a Regional Dance Festival that is going to take place this summer in Redlands, California (Redlands is near Palm Springs). I've never been to one of these so I don't have much to report other than it's going to be awfully hot dancing outdoors at the end of July. A few weeks ago, all of the "Beehives" went to a costume fitting. Shortly after Claire tried on her costume, I received a text message with a picture of a muu muu attached. I thought to myself: "What in the heck is that? It can't possibly be her costume?" When she got home I said: Why did you send me a picture of a muu muu? I thought the Beehives were dancing to a 60's number. She replied: "We ARE dancing to a 60's number. That muu muu IS the costume!" I get the feeling the Beehives are not excited about what they will be wearing. (I have to admit, I can understand why.) I think she felt a little better after she learned that the 14 and 15 year old boys have to wear shirts with ruffles. My advise to the Youth: Some day you are going to laugh about this.

Eden and the rest of the 10 year old boys in our ward received the Cub Scout Arrow of Light award. The ceremony was one that would make any Boy Scout aficionado beam with pride. A man in our Stake lives out in the vineyards on a huge plot of land. He offered to hold the ceremony there. When we pulled up, I thought I had the wrong address. It looked like a park.
There was a little amphitheatre, a fire pit, a tee-pee, a zip line, a pool, tennis courts, horses. (I was tempted to ask him if I can book a family vacation at his place this summer!!) The scout leaders were dressed up in Indian garb and put on a program sure to thrill the crowd. Arrows were flying, fire was burning, Tom-Tom's were pounding, parents were crying. I was so caught up in the reverie that I almost screamed "YA-TA-HEY" when Eden crossed over the bridge and received his arrow. Eden was very excited to have a real arrow to hang on his wall. I just hope he doesn't get any big ideas and use it on Claire in the heat of one of their battles.

Matt spent a lot of time out in the garage working on his car. He got it all ready for a day at the race track with his racing buddy Gary. I'm happy to report that they both came home alive. That is a sure sign that they both had fun.

I drove up to LA with some women in our ward (moms and daughters) to help them look for fabric. One girl was making a dress for the prom, and the other was looking for fabric to use at her wedding reception. It was a fun trip. I was so happy not to be lugging my shopping cart with bolts of Lycra. I ended up rhinestoning the prom dress, and making table cloths for the wedding reception. I seem to remember working out in the back yard a lot. Weeds have taken over. It looks like a jungle out there! I also tried creating some new recipes -- blueberry pie, paella, and curry. (No, I didn't put them all in one dish!) Eden and Claire hated the paella and curry. I guess it's back to mac and cheese.

We all took a weekend trip up to Ventura. While we were there, Matt and Eden went on a ocean fishing trip with some people that work with John Deere. While they fished, Claire and I sat by the hotel pool, and went shopping at the local mall. Eden really enjoyed sport fishing. He caught several fish and I think someone on the boat caught a little shark. We planned to make fish tacos with Eden's fish. Sadly, when we got home, Matt forgot to bring them in from the garage. They sat out there for a while before Matt realized his mistake. (That is one thing I do remember -- the garage REEKED for a few days.) Needless to say, Eden was VERY disappointed that he did not get to make fish tacos.

Elfie got a hair cut and spent two days in the Pet Hotel. She was mad at us for a while, but she got over it.

That's it, that's all I can remember. Pretty sad. I think I need to start carrying around a pad of paper so I can write notes to myself!
