Technical Difficulities

Wow, it's been a while huh! Here's the reason why -- I have been experiencing major difficulties with my computer. For some reason, the connection between the computer and the battery is destroyed and unfixable. For the past few months, it's been hanging on for dear life, but only minutes at a time. So ..... I haven't been able to do any blogging. But, as of this weekend, I'm back!!!! I bought a new computer yesterday and it's up and running. I'll try my best to recall some of the things that went on between September and now, but you know me, my recall is starting to fail -- not unlike the battery connection!

For starters, the kids went back to school. For most of the United States, with school comes cold weather, colored leaves, and a new "back to school" winter wardrobe. Not Temecula. In September, our hot season is just beginning. For the past 3 months we've been wearing our summer shorts and complaining about the 100 degree temperatures. Will it ever end??? The kids in the carpool are constantly complaining about running laps in the heat, and eating lunch outside in the un-shaded prisonyard-esque lunch area. (They were all fine until they watched High School Musical and realized that kids in other places have cool cafeterias and indoor P.E. Curse you Disney!!!!!!!) Me, I can't wait to make a bowl of soup and put on a sweater!! In spite of the heat, Eden has adapted to middle school quite nicely. He loves that he gets to change some of his classes every few months (like art, home ec., computers, drama, etc.), and that he has good friends in all of his classes. He hates all the homework, and trying to keep his school binder organized. Claire loves being back with friends, sitting next to friends in class, walking up the hill with friends after school, and texting all her friends after school. Claire hates school work, running in P.E., homework, and getting her phone taken away for not doing homework.
Eden and Claire weren't the only ones who went back to school this Fall. Now that I'm no longer sewing, I decided to start taking classes again. It's a little weird being the oldest person in the class, but I'm loving it. I'm taking an art class at the local community college here in town and an online history class from BYU. Some day, if I can keep plugging along, I hope to have a master's degree in art. It will probably take me about 20 years, but it I think it's achieveable if I can find special senior citizen's van that will take me to and from school when I'm in my 80's! It's a slow go, but I'm having fun. Right now, I'm taking a drawing class and this week's assignment was a still life of vegetables in charcoal. Please tell me that you can recognize this as a weak attempt at garlic and a tangerine!!! Drawing is a lot harder than it looks!!!

Along with school came extra curricular activities. That means I'm back to driving the car like a crazy person for a few hours each day. This year, Eden signed up for swim at the local swim club and is working towards being on the swim team. He goes every day after school and just loves it. Claire and her friends are taking dance classes together three days a week. They want to try out for the high school dance team next year so they are busy perfecting their jumps and turns.

Halloween came and went. It was a little quiet this year. We went to a ward Halloween party the weekend before Halloween which was a lot of fun. Everyone dressed up and we had a carnival for the kids. On Halloween day, I went out of town to a wedding. Claire went to a party and trick-or-treating with friends, while Matt and Eden spent the day at Disneyland. We all had a great time, even though we didn't spend it together in the traditional manner.

Matt and I got new callings at church. Matt was the Assistant Scout leader for Eden's scout troop, and is now a Sunday school teacher for the 16 and 17 year olds. All I can say is that it's a tough crowd. It reminds me of the scene in Ferris Beuler's Day off. "The answer to that question is........anyone, anyone, anyone........" Matt's not used to a bunch of kids who just sit and stare. After 4 years of teaching Relief Society (the best calling ever), I finally got a new assignment. I'm now the 1st Counselor in Young Women (the best calling ever). I just love being with all of the Young Women in our ward, in cluding the YW leaders. It's a blast and I'm certain that serving here keeps you young! Who needs botox when you have 40 girls to tell you what is hip and cool, and who make you laugh!!!
Next week is Thanksgiving. Now that my camera is fixed and I have a new computer, I'll tell you all about it in my next post. That's it for now, I'm off. I have to drive someone, somewhere .... and I have homework!!!!
