Want to know what I'm doing today??? I have quite an adgenda. Matt's coming home and Halloween's just around the corner. Here's my to do list:

.. lots of cleaning. I've got to get the house all spiffed up for trick-or-treaters. I don't want them to trip on the rotting pumpkin and piles of shoes as they approach my front door. I don't know if my homeowner's insurnace covers injuries sustained while begging for candy. Incidentally, about the pumpkin. This is what happens in California when you set your carved pumpkin outside a week before Halloween. Disgusting huh!

Pet Grooming - My dogs stink, and they can't see. Hair has completely taken over their little faces. Time to get them spiffed up for trick-or-treaters. They love it when guests say: "Ohhhhhhhh, they are so cute!!!!" They deserve a few kudos. I might even put them in a costume.... although I'm still debating that one. I have issues with people who think their dogs are little children.

Baking. Lots and lots of baking. Not because I love to bake mind you.... I have events. Lots and lots of events. And they require refreshments, for which I agreed to supply food. Here's what I'm making:

  • A delicious dinner for Matt -- He's a foodie and I'm sure he's very sick of restaurants after 3 weeks away from home. I was thinking of making Cashew Curry, but I don't think he would appreciate the joke. Instead I'm making Mushroom Bisque and Salad Greens with Apples and Maple Syrup Dressing. Yum.

  • Cookies for a funeral - I'm making LaDella's Cherry Chip Cookies. This is a family recipe from my late mother-in-law.

  • Pumpkin Cheesecake Cupcakes - For my friends as a Halloween treat. I haven't tried this recipe either... it's been floating around in my head, but I think this is going to be a winner.

  • Caramel Apple Pie - Another recipe of my own invention, for a church Halloween party tonight. It's a tradition. Every year we have a pie baking contest. Guess who's been in the winner's circle -- 3 years in a row -- Farish Beutler, that's who. I think there's something wrong with the judges taste buds, however, because the queen of pie baking in my opinion is Nita Watson. Her pies are perfect. She makes perfect, perfect crust. Compared to Nita's mine is more like sand. It's true and I complain every year "Nita should be the winner!!!" But wish me luck anyway, will you, cuz I'm going to need it. I have some incredible cooks in my ward. I'll let you know the outcome.

Next, I have a meeting. I have a job at church. I work with the young women aged 12 through 18, and there's A LOT of them. I need to plan, plan, plan things for them to do.

And finally, I have the big party at church tonight. The Young Women are in charge of a carnival booth, and I have to bring my pie. Should be lots of fun.

Hey... want to try out my recipes?? If so, click here. This is my new recipe blog, which is still under construction. It does not contain any fancy pictures at the moment, but it will! Why.....BECAUSE I'M BUSY!!!!!!!!!!! My cooking blog is called "The Best of Friends". It's a foodie journal of the many recipes I've tried over the years and the cooks who have inspired AND shared recipes recipes with me.

Postscript: Guess who's in the winner's circle again for pie baking???? Me!! And I'm shocked, I really am because that table of fresh baked pies was intimidating. They all looked delicious and I thought this would be the year that I went down.... down in flames. And guess who's still sick.... Ferris. He barely made it home. He has no desire to even look at food, not even my incredible pie. But lucky for me, I didnt' have to make dinner tonight! Check that off the to do list!!
