Bon Appétit

Last month as I was planning my trip to France, I contacted Muriel Foucher, a woman who teaches cooking classes in Paris.  Sadly, Muriel was booked the week I will be there, which was a big disappointment because I really wanted to cook with her, she had such great reviews from her clients.  But, luck was with me.  Shortly after our initial conversations, Muriel contacted me to say that she was going to be in California on April 1st teaching a class in the home of a friend.  She said " You are welcome to come to that class if you live anywhere near Temecula."     Is that a coincidence or what!

So last Friday, my friend Chessa and I spent the evening cooking with Muriel at the home of her friend Celine.

Celine teaches classes at the Temecula Rec. Center

Among other things, we learned how to make tatins d'echalootes nouvelles, which is a fancy name for Shallot Tarts.

If you are a novice in the kitchen, don't let that intimidate you -- they were so simple to prepare.  In fact, all of the recipes were dishes a beginner could tackle with ease.  Chessa and I are not beginners, be we had fun, and learned a few new things from Muriel.

To you domestic goddesses in training out there,  if you ever get a chance to take a French cooking class, you should do it.  It's fun.

As we were cooking away in Celine's kitchen, I learned that Muriel no longer lives in France, she lives in Seattle, and her son is going to attend the University of Utah, which is where I attended college.  Another co-inky-dink!

If you live in the Seattle area, you should give Muriel a call.  She is such a sweet woman, who will make you feel at ease as you learn the ways of the French.

If you do, make sure she teaches you how to prepare something with a delicious sauce . . . and how to make the perfect Macaroon.

P.S.  For those of you who did not read the comments in Friday's post -- I am not moving to Utah.  April Fools. :)
