Hitchhiker

When we came home from our wilderness adventure, Claire got sick -- really, really sick.
Her symptoms were so random that I thought she was making stuff up.

Mom, I have a migrane.
I am freezing to death.
I have chest pain.
My knee is swollen.
I feel faint.
I have a rash on my feet.
My mouth feels all tingly.
I am burning up.
My joints ache, it's hard to walk.
My eyes hurt.

The first day, we told her her body was probably re-acclimating to city life.
On the 3rd day, we were worried, and we went to the doctor and asked to run blood tests.

The 4th day, we saw the doctor again.

The prognosis -- unbeknownst to us, a little menace accompanied Claire home -- a tick, who took a ride on her ankle and decided to stay a while.

Claire has Lyme Disease.

So thankful we caught it early, before we left for France.

Oh no! I recently saw a documentary on that. It's pretty scary stuff if it goes undetected for too long. It's a reaaallly good thing you caught it early. If you dare to watch the show, it's called "Under Our Skin".

That is so lucky you caught it so early. I've heard horror stories about people having Lyme disease forever before figuring it out.

Poor Claire. But we all know she can do hard things, just another thing to add to the list. ;)

Oh my gosh! I am glad you caught it. I was also worried about this after hiking all over the Montana backcountry. We pre-treated our clothes with this crazy tick wash. Scary stuff.

I am so sorry to hear this! I hope that she is doing better. I had an experience with a tick while in college that I will never forget!
I got you comment on my blog....I am teaching at Inspiration Unlimited at Green Valley Resort in Henderson, NV on the day before the real event starts. It will be a fun class! I would love for you to come. I would also love to attend your fun event that you are planning, I need to look more into my Feb. and start saving my moolah!
